Urban Extremist was formed in the mid-nineties in the United States by myself, Trevor Francis and Kevin Dillard both out of Washington DC. Two well known bicycle messengers/couriers who preferred to deliver their packages on mountain bikes rather than road bikes. At the time most courier races were road bike oriented and always on the road so as a mountain biker I wanted to change that. Urban Extremist was born and as a result of that we put on our own races mainly off-road and just for fun. As the racing became more serious Urban Extremist Mountain Bike Race Team recruited non messengers and raced at amateur races all over the east coast of the United States.
Urban Extremist UK was formed in 2006 by myself and Steven Johnson, who both live in Sheffield. Home to a living legend Steve Peat, 2006 UCI World Cup Downhill winner and to some of the best training grounds in the UK. The emphasis of the club these days is not that much on racing but more on enjoying your time on the bike and meeting new and old friends. The club is more into trail riding, cross country....extreme cross country(AKA) all mountain riding and a bit of downhill to round things off. We also like to do our bit for charity so we do a few charity rides here and there. We are a family oriented club and we always put safety first, all ages and riding skills welcome. So why don't you get off the couch, dust off the old bike and come on and join the fun.
